How I started my online marketing adventure

How I started my online marketing journey

My desire to get rich through internet marketing

Unemployment could not have come at the worst time for me, in the middle of my mid-life crisis.  I am now without a job, regular income, and my savings have dried up completely.  I had tried a brick-and-mortar business which is now failing after one and a half years of hard work.  I'm now surviving on credit card and overdraft.  The psychological stress of not knowing whether my life will get back on track is tormenting.  The strain on the family is unbearable.  Marriage is on the verge of landing on the rocks because of this.  This is NOT the situation you want to be in!

In desperation, I picked up every kind of books I could to find out how I can make money online.  The first book I found was "The Laptop Millionaire".  It gave the story of how the author went from rags to riches after he obtained sound advice from someone who is making good money from the internet, someone he calls the laptop millionaire.

In his book, he discussed several ways to make money on the internet, and how he used Email and several social media platforms to get rich.

Honestly, it seemed like the familiar story at the time, unbound riches is just around the corner on the internet, and anybody can become rich, only if you buy this book and do what it tells you to.

In the dire situation I was in, I was willing to try anything.  I bought the book with what limited money I had left.  This was exactly one month ago in June 2014.

My First Twitter Account

Having read the book from front to back, I was all fired up and ready to go, and the first thing I did was to set up a new Twitter account using a pen name -- because I wasn't comfortable to use my real name, and the author convinced me that it's a perfectly acceptable thing to do on the internet.  I've signed up for a twitter account using my real name before, but I had never really used it, so this was practically the first REAL twitter account to me -- one that I was going to USE and get rich!

Or so I thought.  No sooner had I sent out a few tweets, and started to follow people on Twitter aggressively, my account got suspended at least 3 times, each time I had to give a reason why I was following over 1,000 people a day, why Direct Messaging (DM) too many people was a no-no, and so on.  I was sure learning fast.  Fortunately, Twitter let off off the hook, but each time had me click on a checkbox that said that repeated violation of the Twitter terms of service might bet my account permanently banned.

For those who are interested, I used fakenamegenerator.com and fakemailgenerator.com to generate the pen name and get a temporary email account respectively.  Fakenamegenerator generates a lot more fake identity data than a name, but I've had no use for them till now.

For the profile picture, I downloaded a photo of a chubby guy and used Photoshop's "puppet warped" feature to reshape his face and eyes and I now look like a young handsome guy.  It's amazing what Photoshop can do, even for a novice like me.

My Second Twitter Account, and Third, Fourth and Fifth

After 4 days of fiddling around on Twitter, I started my second twitter account.  This time I chose the profile of a young attractive lady, with a pretty picture to go along with it (gleaned from the internet).  I didn't have to modify the profile image this time, as I have discovered by this time that many profile pictures on Twitter are fake ones anyway.  I continued to create the 3rd, 4th and 5th account within the last one month.

My first Twitter account has grown to over 2,000 followers after one month, and my second Twitter account has surprise, surprise attracted over 3,200 followers by now.  I wonder if it's because of the pretty girl profile picture I used.  Oh yes, there were lots of arabic followers (although a proportion of them do tweet in English as well).  My other accounts are still less than 500 followers at the moment, growing slowly.

I'll sign off this post for now.  I'll continue the stories of my adventure in the next post.

I hope to post here as regularly as I can, so that I can keep track of my own progress this way.

But more importantly, I hope to log down my thought processes, and everything that I do, every action that I take, on my road from rags to riches when I do get there.

Till then, live long and prosper.
